I responsibly split my childhood between time spent outdoors and time spent with my i486 computer. As a part of a teenage rebellion, I went to the mountains to study at a forestry academy. There I successfully cut down a few trees, learned to know most of our plants by their Latin names, and cured thousands of seedlings with Aversol to prevent deer damage. Then I went back to computers and studied Information Studies and Library Science at Masaryk University in Brno.

I have responded positively to colors and shapes since I was a toddler, so tackling data visualization and graphing as a theme of my academia life was an obvious choice. I first looked into all the weird and artistic visualizations that defy classification, but then decided to tackle something more practical for once: the effectiveness of charts. Since then, I’ve been giving talks now and then to anyone who doesn’t want to be laughed at for their chart-making skills.
I still keep in touch with the forest, mainly through my hobbies: trekking, backpacking, birdwatching and wildlife photography. The rest of the time I am filling with bike rides (bike being basically just two pie charts welded together with a pipe), or reading, or watching movies that no one knows.
